North Eden Farm
North Eden Farm, home of our Boer Goats, is
located eight kms north of Edenwold, Saskatchewan, Canada, on the
640 grid. All most fifteen years ago now, we, Jerry and Darlyne
Hoberg, bought an old dairy farm along with twenty goats. Nineteen
of those goats were half blood Boer does along with one purebred
Boer buck.
We presently have twenty purebred, and percentage registered Boer
does, down from around one hundred five years ago. Our purebred
stock is from South African bloodlines and Full Canadians bred up
using purebred registered bucks and the offspring of our original
herd. Our percentage animals are crossed with Saanan and Nubian
dairy goats. We have used the cross with these dairy breeds to
increase the milk supply in our Boer does.
Our focus, on North Eden Farm, is to provide quality breeding stock
to our clients as well as raise market kids for the meat market.
On North Eden Farm we use guard dogs and llamas for predator
control. We haven’t lost a goat to predators since using these
animals.
Darlyne is a member and sits on the board of Saskatchewan Goat
Breeders Association. She is a current member and past director of
the former Canadian Boer Goat Association and is a regional
representative of The Canadian Meat Goat Association. She also
represents SGBA on the board of the Canadian National Goat
Federation.
